Making Choices to Improve the Default
Scott Miker
Making choices is an integral part of life. While some of these choices may be major life decisions, there are also many subtle ones that we make on a daily basis. Often, we tend to avoid making deliberate choices and simply accept the default option, as it seems easier. However, this can lead to dissatisfaction and unhappiness, as we may not be fully satisfied with the outcome.
When we avoid making tough decisions, we are given the default option, which is whatever is left over. Those who are willing to strive for something are given the first choice, while those who are unwilling to stake their claim are left with whatever remains. This can lead to feelings of being punished or victimized, but in reality, it is simply a result of not being deliberate in our choices.
To avoid this, it is important to realize that we always have options in life. However, these options are not between a perfect path and a flawed one, but rather between a number of different flawed paths. We need to see it for what it is and realize that there will be challenges and difficulties. Expecting perfect paths will only lead to disappointment.
When faced with difficult choices, it is important to focus on the solution, flaws and all. We must take control of the situation and make a choice, even if it is not ideal. This can lead to greater control in our lives, as well as an understanding of the full scope of the situation.
By taking control and holding ourselves accountable, we can make progress and address problems early. It helps us move forward in a direction we choose, not the common path that emerges.
It is important to stop searching for perfect options and to start living in reality. By taking control of our choices and learning to choose between a number of flawed options, we can gain greater control in our lives, and set realistic expectations for the future.
